A Cure for a Cold Lonely Winter: Online Dating
POV: Bernie's Story As a reporter for COGNEWS, I come across many people who, through no fault of their own, spend the Christmas and New Year season on their own. This may be due to the loss of a partner or having gone through the breakup of a relationship. The feeling of isolation can be quite painful, especially after a Christmas spent with relatives. In this modern world, we don’t have the social connections we once had, and certainly in Cheadle isolation can be quite seve

More thefts: At the Fruit & Veg shop
On Saturday, 10th January, another theft occurred in a Cheadle shop. This time at Fresh Produce, a popular fruit, veg, and plant store on the Tape Street car park. We were told that a man looked around the trees and plants, then pulled up a face mask and ran away with a potted bay tree. CCTV footage shows him almost tripping over a step. The staff have posted the incident on Facebook because they had a Christmas tree stolen a few weeks ago, and posting the incident on Faceboo

Walk Like a Penguin or Pavement Skiing?
With temperatures low and wet or snowy weather continuing, falling on ice is a major concern for many of us. We've seen a lot of talk about which way is best to walk, and with new NHS advice, we're asking the question: which way is better? On a recent visit into town to deliver our new publication, Pocket COG, the only safe option was to walk. Our discussions at COG are long and varied, generally pleasant, and on this day, we found ourselves discussing the new NHS advice to w

Art in Action - Creating Community Connections

Cheadle Police Station is Open but Not as We Might Expect
Local PCSOs have confirmed that Cheadle Police Station is open for policing purposes and is a place the public can attend if they have been a victim of crime, if they have reported something and expressed that they would rather have a meeting at the police station than at their own home or at the location of the crime. It is also used by local officers in their duties. It's a busy place; they are well-staffed and well-equipped. They don't have a front desk that is open to the

Wonderful Winter Walks - A New www?
Why Walking? Path Blockers Where to Begin Walking Q & A Cheadle Walks Many of us use the start of a new year to review things we'd like to change, and taking a little time to reflect on the last year and how we might improve our lives can be greatly beneficial. These 'living dead' species survive in isolated patches of woodland, wetland, or grassland, unable to sustain viable populations long term. Why it matters Fragmented landscapes mean fewer chances for wildlife to thrive. The Local Nature Recovery Strategy aims to reverse this by restoring and linking habitats across Staffordshire.
