What's for Dinner?

If you've ever asked the question "What's for dinner?" or if just hearing the words makes you want to hide behind the sofa, this post is for you.

I've been in charge of the cooking since I was fifteen, and with a modern household of constant activity, hybrid and shift working, allergies, and health considerations, something which used to be simple and organized is complete chaos. Batch cooking is brilliant if you can make the time to do it. But here's a quick win - a crib sheet you can write out and pin on the fridge or keep on your phone.

What's for Dinner?

Essentially, meals can be broken down into four things:

  • A carbohydrate such as rice, potatoes, etc.

  • A protein such as beef, cheese, eggs

  • A vegetable

  • A sauce or flavor

Some combos are natural besties, like a roast dinner or a curry with rice. Some can be passed off as fusion food, where we combine unlikely elements that work. We hope this crib sheet will help you recall what you have and connect you back to the things you love to eat at a glance. If you want to change it, just download a fresh sheet.

When you're filling in your boxes, be specific and make sure you write down only the things you all like, even if it's an occasional like. Fussy eaters? Give them their own sheet, let them fill it in, and cross-reference with the general list for easier meal making.

We hope it brings you a bit more joy at mealtimes!
