Lockett & Co Auction Rooms, Cheadle were forced to cancel their regular auction today (Saturday 27th June) following a break-in. The stalwart group of lovely people who run the auction rooms will be going ahead with the planned auction tomorrow instead. We are not reporting on this at the moment as there is an ongoing police investigation, but do support Lockets tomorrow if you can. Today is the Day, Come have your say On Cheadle Market.
Almost 800 years of market trading came to an end two years ago when SMDC purchased Cheadle Market. Today, they are opening the doors to everyone to see the market and have their say on the future of this important element of town life. Can it be completed before the likely dissolution of SMDC, which should be decided by October? Will SMDC manage to get their development plans approved now that they don't control the planning process? Might Cheadle Town Council aim to take th

Cecilly Brook & Hales Hall Pool: Cheadle's Vital Wildlife Corridor
Taking a stroll along Cecilly Brook during May or June will reveal a wealth of wildlife. We caught up with Mark Preece, Senior Reserves Officer at Staffordshire Wildlife Trust (SWT), who manages the area, to find out more. The reserve forms a green corridor through Cheadle, with the brook snaking a natural winding course. Incredibly, we still have a small population of water voles living here. They are the UK’s fastest declining mammal. This is due to habitat loss but also pr

Visiting Hartington
Located about 30 minutes from Cheadle, Hartington Village - just over the border in Derbyshire - is well worth a trip out. Oat Cuisine: The Humble Staffordshire Oatcake History and Recipe
Local Staffordshire cuisine features the humble oatcake. You'll find them in supermarkets, specialty oatcake shops, cafes and you can even make your own. This modest brown oat patty offers an excellent substitute for sliced bread, wraps, and other similar items. You can roll, fold, or even make a calzone. Cecily Brook's Racing Labyrinth
During a recent visit to Cecilly Brook Nature Reserve in Cheadle, South Moorlands, unlike my many previous visits where I looked for water voles, bats, and moths or enjoyed a lovely walk through nature, this time I did something different. I took a look at a very special game they have there, called the Predator Prey Racing Labyrinth. It's an area of natural descent, but has been set up in a certain order so that people (mostly children) can race against each other. It's a ra
