There is nothing like home grown organic vegetables; Cheadle Allotments Society grows theirs, and much more on the outskirts of our beautiful town. The allotment produces wonderful vegetables and flowers but is also a haven for insects. The site was once a fir tree wood which was cleared for use over 10 years ago except for one tree that is a native english species.
The Allotment people are a friendly bunch, inviting the Town Council and Home Link to their open day event, an end of season barbecue. The society organised a lovely meal with salad grown on the plot. This reporter was pleased to see one guest from each attending and enjoying the event. I enjoyed my burger while being buzzed by bees and butterflies.
The Allotment Society has been working on the same principle as Cheadle COG, years before our publication existed, by providing free food to Home Link who provide meals on wheels and other services to our older residents.
