Cheadle Flower Club met this month (April) and were treated to demonstrations by Pam from Quirky Flowers in Cheddleton. Club Chairman Sheila Jones welcomed everyone and advised members that it is 60 years since the Flower Club was first formed and will be celebrating this occasion at the July meeting.

Pam grows all the flowers and foliage she uses in her arrangements on her dairy farm in Cheddleton. She does not use any oasis in her displays and gave an array of ideas for alternative ways to display flowers, which she uses for weddings and her lovely expression of ‘farewell flowers’ for natural funeral arrangements.
The first display was produced in a lovely urn using foliage to create a framework and outline, adding white and purple anemones, peach and pink ranunculus, and tulips, together with beautiful Winston Churchill narcissus and a selection of daffodils. The display was absolutely stunning and admired by everyone present.

The next arrangement utilised two long narrow wooden boxes holding vermiculite to absorb water and chicken wire to support the flowers and foliage. Pam used box, hebe, and flowering currant for foliage, adding a wonderful selection of colourful flowers such as tulips, polyanthus, muscari, anemones, ranunculus, pansies, and completed with a beautiful red Icelandic poppy. The arrangement was a gorgeous example of all the beautiful colours of spring.

The third presentation was displayed in a pot holding alder, snowberry foliage, broom, anemones, ranunculus, and again the lovely Winston Churchill narcissus provided another unique and beautiful display.
A round wooden tray holding a collection of different-sized jars and tin cans held the next arrangement. Pam simply placed box, hebe, and heather around the containers to hide them, then added spirea, broom, honesty flowers, anemones, narcissus, and colorful tulips to complete this lovely arrangement.
Pam then demonstrated a hand-tied bouquet, firstly laying out all the flowers and foliage of willow, alder, snowberry, broom, anemones, ranunculus, stock, and black tulips. She created a spiral shape by continually turning the arrangement in her hand, producing a wonderful and beautiful bouquet.
Lastly, Pam used a collection of brass containers, each just holding a couple of flowers such as daffodils, tulips, ranunculus, and anemones, showing that you do not need a large number of flowers to create a beautiful table display.

Heather gave the vote of thanks to Pam for an absolutely lovely evening, with everyone agreeing that Pam is an incredibly gifted and talented lady. The arrangements were raffled, with many very happy members taking home some of Pam’s incredible flowers.
The club's next meeting will be held at the Oakley Room, The Guild Hall, Tape Street, Cheadle, on 21st May at 7:30 pm. For any further information regarding our club, please do not hesitate to contact our chairman, Sheila, on 07974577572 or email. sheilajones53@hotmail.com.
