The Benefits of Chair-Based Exercise
Updated: Aug 24
Last week, we were invited to visit Wellspring in Cheadle to find out about their chair-based exercise group who meet there Cheadle Mayor Phil Routledge was keen to meet participants and have a go himself.

Chair-based exercise is a form of physical activity performed while sitting on a chair or using it for support. It is designed for older adults, people with limited mobility, or anyone recovering from an injury, offering a safe way to build strength, flexibility, and balance without heavy joint strain.
Minister, Rev. Julie Hassall told us why she has invited us in; "We agreed to set up the Chair Exercise Group here at Wellspring because, although similar sessions do take place at the Leisure Centre, we are aware that there are people in our community who struggle to get there, and we were keen to enable anybody who wanted to attend to be able to do so. We have extremely accessible premises right in the middle of town and are happy to offer the space for activities which benefit the community.
"We love to welcome those who come and want to promote the group, which is free to attend. Some of those who currently come are seeking gentle exercise with a qualified trainer, some come to enjoy the company, and some have even started going out for lunch after the session. It is great that the group is enabling new friendships. We meet every Wednesday from 11:45 am until 12:30 pm."
Julie would like to encourage more people to come along, and they can accommodate between 30 - 40 people.

With the plans for development passed for Wellspring Cheadle and fundraising well underway we look forward to how this much loved space will be transformed to serve the community even better. We are grateful to Minister Julie Hassall and the hard working team making this happen for Cheadle.
