Official Ceremony for the Incoming Mayor

Sunday 6th of October 2024 saw local dignitaries, councillors and other guests gather at St Giles the Abbot, for the official welcoming ceremony of Cheadle Town Council's Mayor, Paulette Upton. Accompanied by her Deputy, Councillor Kate Mills, her consort and family, Councillor Upton took her act of dedication. In attendance was the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Deputy Leader of the County Council, Leader of the District Council and other visiting mayors and their consorts.

Once Mayor Upton had made her declaration to discharge her duties faithfully, the town councillors stood with her to declare their intention to work with the Mayor in seeking the wellbeing of Cheadle. The Congregation then joined a pledge to support the Mayor and the Council for the benefit of the town in creating a strong and inclusive community.

Following the National Anthem, the Mayor and civic guests preceded by the standards left the church. A short civic reception followed to enable strong community bonds to grow.
