Additional highway repairs required at Wetley Rocks improvements
Motorists are being advised of some additional repairs and investigative works required at the scheme at Wetley Rocks. The £1.4 million scheme started on Monday 30 June and is being delivered by Staffordshire County Council.

During the works, crews have identified additional issues with the drainage systems which will need to be repaired. Further investigation has also revealed a number of gaps under the road surface which will require additional exploration and repair.
To make sure these repairs can be done safely, the A520 Main Road has been temporarily closed for approximately two weeks, Monday to Friday from Monday 21 July. A clearly signposted diversion will be in place along the A522 Cheadle Road and A52 Kingsley Road.
Access to properties along the length of the scheme will be maintained throughout the works and crews will be doing their best to minimise disruption. People should allow extra time for their journeys.
A major £1.4 million improvement scheme is due to start in Wetley Rocks on Monday 30 June.
The work is expected to take around three months to complete and will see the reconstruction and resurfacing of the A520 main road through Wetley Rocks, from Oakland Close to the Texaco Petrol Station north of the village.

Some sections of footpaths will also be resurfaced to improve accessibility for pedestrians. Crews will also be fixing damaged drainage, kerbing and ironworks where necessary.
To make sure the work can be carried out safely, temporary traffic lights will be in operation along with a combination of temporary lane and road closures. Overnight closures for the resurfacing work will also be carried out and are expected to be done in two phases. The first closure will be in place late July and the final closure will be in late August. A signed diversion will be in place during the closures via the A52 and A523 roads. Access to businesses and residents in the works area will be maintained where possible.
Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways North at Staffordshire County Council, said: “This is a major improvement scheme for the Staffordshire Moorlands and is part of our wider plans to improve roads right across the county.
“The main road through Wetley Rocks is a busy thoroughfare and a well-used road but crews will be doing all they can to minimise any disruption and get the work done as quickly and safely as possible. This includes doing the resurfacing work overnight when the road is quieter.
“Signs have already been put up with details of the scheme and we’ve written to residents and businesses informing them of the upcoming work. It’s a vital scheme for the area and I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience.”
