Improving Staffordshire's Transport Systems

Residents are being invited to share their opinions on the future design of transport plans for Staffordshire.

Staffordshire County Council is asking for everyone to have their say through a public consultation to help support the development of the Staffordshire’s Local Transport Plan (LTP).

Improving Staffordshire's Transport Systems

All transport authorities must develop and regularly renew a local transport plan (LPT) to check on transport needs and challenges, and set out different ways to tackle those challenges.

SCC's vision for this LPT is to create a co-ordinated and efficient transport system that supports economic growth, creates healthy and safe communities and protects the natural environment.

This will include plans, policies and priorities relating to roads, cycleways, public rights of way and public transport across the county.

This is a plan that affects us all because it’s about all the ways we get around, how we manage and relieve congestion, and how we improve the safety of all road users. We urge all COGNEWS readers to please consider the effects of poor transport on your family, friends, and neighbours who don't drive, and the benefits better buses, trains, walking, and cycling routes would mean for us all.

Please consider the effects on Moorlands Town Centres and village businesses, which could be busier if potential visitors could better reach them, bringing more prosperity to local people.

Please consider the health benefits of fewer cars traveling around our region—routes would be cleaner, respiratory health would improve, and we could be more connected to our friends and neighbours through a lovely conversation at the bus stop.

Education would be improved for our young people as more choices would emerge, and ease of travel would improve students' outcomes.

Job prospects would be improved for working adults, and residents of nearby areas can travel at times that fit the working day.

All these things and many more benefits require us all to do two things:

  1. Have our say on the transport plan

  2. Support those changes with actions such as walking or cycling more, car sharing and using existing services.
