Which can still be organised in time and don't have to be expensive.
Take a Walk
Taking a walk gives you time together where all modern distractions vanish. You can take your fur babies and your human ones. You can have a plan or just amble along. You can take drinks and snacks or even a picnic. You could consider making a special family walking tour.
Take Her for a Drive
If you drive and have a car, consider taking your mum out. You could act as her chauffeur, opening the doors, carrying any parcels, taking her wherever she'd like to go, or you could take her somewhere significant to you both, a drive-by of your old home, somewhere from your childhood, or to see something you're planning for the future.
Do Something Extra
That might be moving that pile of laundry she's been asking you about all week, it could be fitting that shelf you know she really needs but haven't gotten around to, it could be cutting the grass. Whatever it is, when you do it, you'll show her that she's important to you.
Make Something
It could be writing a poem, a picture, anything you think she might enjoy, and you could do it together. One of my favourite things is a necklace my daughter made for me in a workshop I took her to.
Pay Something Forward
This is where you make a promise to do something and you fund it now. It could be theater tickets, booking a table at a new restaurant, or booking that Pilates class she'd like to try. You can use our promise sheet if it's difficult to define—just write a note. This way you can help her plan, and having something to look forward to is good for our mental health and family bonding too.
