Please kindly study this photograph, taken on Friday the 6th September. This work brought Cheadle traffic to a standstill. People were late for work, missed medical appointments, and generally spent a considerable amount of time queuing, whilst Severn Trent carried out "essential" work. Only they didn't not for at least two days as our pic of the road closure notice indicates. Missing are the workmen, the equipment, the vehicles and any sign of a hole in the ground.
In France the locals would have cleared the carriageway until the workman turned up on Monday but Cheadle is a community made up of law abiding people and would never take issues into their own hands. It's something we hope our friendly Highways Councillor, Mark Deaville will take up on our behalf, particularly as there is likely to be significantly more building work happening in Cheadle for the foreseeable future.
If you were affected by this particular set of road works, one of at least three in our town that week, then do feel free to let Staffordshire County Council know how this impacted you. Their view is that they are not responsible, we think that's a cop out. Here is their complaints link for anyone who wants to add their complaint.
Drivers please be extra vigilant as some people take risks in congested traffic.
