Halloween Special: Looking the Part
Looking the Part
What to wear
Halloween gives us all an opportunity to dress up. It doesn't have to be gory, it can be whatever you want it to be. Some good places to look are:
The supermarkets will be full of what's big this season to satisfy your little ones.
Check out Cosplay sites & groups for ideas and tips on how to make, you can pare down your version for a costume
Vintage & Charity shops can be excellent places to find a good base piece
Consider reusables, an old black hat, cloak, or corset can be used for many years to come

Here are some costuming do's and don'ts
Do add props. Who is Thor without his hammer or a doctor without her medical bag?
Do allow enough time to make or acquire your props
Do add make up if it adds to the character
Don't expect your little ones too put too much effort in costume creation, some will but many won't
Do add bandages, plasters and the like for a low budget grizzly look
Do add temporary tattoos
Don't neglect your own costume, your group will be happier if you join in
Get into character
A great costume without getting into character doesn't look as great as an average costume presented in the style of the character. Do a little research, if there is film of other actors portraying your character watch, practise their mannerisms, sayings, how they speak and possibly even a little skit, if you are confident enough. This can be a great activity for little ones to do together and will add to the excitement of your cunning Halloween plans.
