Explore the Past at Your Local Library This Autumn


This September and October, join in with the Staffordshire History Festival—a two-month celebration of local history and heritage by Staffordshire Libraries & Arts and Archives & Heritage.


Last year, over 8,000 people took part in this events—and even more joined in online. This year, promises an exciting programme of talks, tours, exhibitions, re-enactments, and hands-on activities, plus a vibrant stream of content across the festival's social media channels.

Festival Highlights

  • Behind-the-Scenes Museum Tours: Explore rarely seen treasures from the County Museum stores

  • Perton Library History Fair: Saturday 4th October Historical stalls, re-enactors, exhibitions, and family-friendly fun.

  • Living History Experiences: Meet the Age of Penda Saxons, explore Ancient Egypt, and dive into the Titanic with interactive workshops.

  • Talks by Local Historians & Authors: Featuring David Robbie, Geoff Berriman, Jono Oates, Kevin Mellor, Andrew Lound, Steve Booth, Shaun Farrelly & Andrew Sloane and more.

  • Film Screenings: Discover the life of Fanny Deakin, a North Staffs trailblazer, at Newcastle, Biddulph & Kidsgrove Libraries.

  • Pocket Film Festival ‘Something Old, Something New’:  Film Screenings at Baswich Library and Perton Library.

  • Author Events:

    • Susan Munroe shares the story of Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy

    • Carolyn Kirby presents “Cannonballs, Corsets and Coal” at Stone Library

    • Dr. James Wright busts myths about historic buildings at Stafford and Stone Libraries.

  • Historic Stafford Talks Learn about witches’ marks and the Stafford Broderers at the Ancient High House at Stafford Library.
