The Missing Assets List...

Since the announcement of devolution for Staffordshire, town and parish councils in Staffordshire Moorlands have been asking for a list of assets owned by the district council for their area.
Even with Cheadle Deputy Mayor, Cllr Plant, also being a district councillor and a locality champion for the devolution process at the district council, this information is still shrouded in mystery, with councillors still talking about the lack of a list as recently as last month.
The list is valuable because going into a new local government structure, the information will not only help the town council understand what is owned by the district and therefore the new council but also allow them to review suitability for purpose and how these assets fit into the local economy. It might, in some cases, mean that the town council could take on these assets as they did prior to 1974 when SMDC replaced the Cheadle and District Council.
Imagine my joy this morning when I discovered that not only is the list not confidential but available to anyone who takes a casual look at SMDC's website. So here it is for all you lovely residents, councillors, community leaders, and interested parties to consider and do support your local councillors with their quest to improve our town.
