Final preparations are underway for the annual Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival. Free guided walks and related events are taking place from 24 April to 4 May 2026. The 11-day celebration offers over 60 free and low-cost walks and activities across one of England's most scenic regions, including routes for all ages and abilities.

New additions to this year's programme include a trail run around Tittesworth Reservoir, three half-marathon walks, and four evening talks covering 'Mythstoric Moorlands', Moorlands' nature, South West Peak habitats, and insights from Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.
Established walks range from 1.5 to 16 miles, with the challenging Staffs 3 Peaks hike returning for experienced walkers.
Events run in the morning, afternoon, and evening, catering to dog owners, parents with toddlers and babies, those with mobility and disability issues, and everyone in between. Walks range from leisurely to strenuous, with options for history enthusiasts, nature lovers, and those seeking creative experiences combining movement with sketching or writing. Regular walking boosts mood, reduces anxiety symptoms, and enhances cognitive function, making the festival's focus on accessible outdoor activity particularly valuable.

Austin Knott, festival volunteer, said: "Our walk leaders and volunteer panel have created another inclusive programme that connects people with nature, history, and each other. Whether you're local or visiting, there's something for everyone."

The festival receives support from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, VisitStaffs, Support Staffordshire, and OUTSIDE Arts. Since launching in 2022, the festival has welcomed over 3,600 attendees across 230 walks and events, working with more than 70 organisations.
