Staffordshire Police are asking all parents, carers and guardians to stay alert to the content children may be exposed to online. Sadly, young people are increasingly coming across harmful material.

Staffordshire Police Urge Parents on Children's Online Safety
  • Sexual violence

  • Self-harm and suicide

  • Animal cruelty

  • Indecent images

  • Terrorism and extremism

Here are some practical steps you can take to help keep your children safe:

Set boundaries – use parental controls and privacy settings to restrict access to age-appropriate content.

Talk about misinformation – explain and help them recognise fake news. Warn about private chat rooms – discuss the risks and why they can be unsafe.

Protect personal details – encourage your child not to overshare online.

Keep communication open – reassure them and make it normal to talk about what they do online.

Together, we can help protect children from harmful online content.
