Safety Concerns of Froghall Road Resident

Dear Editor,

This is Froghall Road, and it is our way out of Cheadle Town Centre to Kingsley Holt and
Froghall Station. It looks perfectly normal until you look at the detail. Why are those cars
parked on the pavement?
The clue is the 40-ton truck that hammers through the town as shown in this shot. While most of the truck drivers keep to 30 mph, there are no traffic speed signs in this picture, so at night it is easy for a car driver to use this road at twice the legal speed without knowing.
Two town councillors have filled the forms to be speed-aware operators, but nothing back from the police in Leek yet.
Also can be seen is the shop. It constantly worries me that a child or elderly person may
be hurt as there is no crossing point.
Further examination shows no white lines; they have been neglected by the county council,
and coming soon are 215 houses to be built by Bloor Homes and another 125 homes by
Persimmon, and what will that increased traffic cause?
There are modern methods of traffic calming, not just speed bumps. Could this work here,
and would someone listen?
Examining the pavement at the Leek Road end, we can see that lorries sometimes have to
mount the pavement to turn, which must be a danger to pedestrians.
I drive a small van, and that junction at Froghall end is almost blind in one direction.
We live in hope that a collision does not occur when traffic levels increase. But if you do
witness a near miss in the next months and year, please remember to report it on
Staffordshire Police website, and hopefully we shall get the stats to improve the road before
someone gets killed.
