Update 11.12.24
A frequent dog walker residing in Wetherby Close has lodged a complaint with Cheadle Town Council regarding the closure of the Cheadle 39 footpath by Persimmon Homes since January 2021. This path previously enabled residents to walk from Donkey Lane through Tay Close and then out to Hales Hall.
The resident asserts that the previous temporary closure order expired on August 15, 2024, rendering Persimmon Homes' actions illegal. In response, the Council's Footpath Committee has contacted Ben Haywood, head of the SMDC's planning department, to inquire why the footpath has not been promptly restored, especially since phase one of the building development is nearly finished. Currently, this is preventing Cheadle residents in the northern part of town from accessing the countryside. Cognews will keep you informed about Mr. Haywood's reply.

A footpath situated in the northern part of Cheadle may soon reopen after being closed for three years.
Reopening footpath 39 is crucial for the residents to enjoy the beautiful countryside around them and will enable us to use our cars less, which could reduce congestion on our currently blighted roads. A winter walk in this area would be beneficial for our health and well-being too.
Quin Cordeux, the site manager for Persimmon Homes, told COGNEWS that permission was granted to close the footpath from Donkey Lane in the north of the town via Tay Close to Hales Pool Nature Reserve. However, COGNEWS has a letter indicating that this footpath was never to be closed. Whatever the legal position, Quin Cordeux's team has begun constructing a wide, solid gravel path that is expected to connect the two roads. He still needs to establish the link with Donkey Lane and extend the path along the back of the houses past Cheltenham Avenue.
Once adopted by the county, a combined rubbish bin would be appreciated for those walking with their pets. We look forward to seeing this path opened again and will let you know as soon as we have an update.
