Pedal Power and Peak Challenge Raise Over £3,000 for Local Family Support Charity

An impressive 200-mile tandem coast-to-coast cycle ride through torrential rain and a gruelling 100 km hike through the Peak District in high temperatures have raised over £3,000 for Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands, at a time when the local charity is facing the most critical funding challenge in its 27-year history.

Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands was established in June 1998 and supports families from all walks of life living in the Staffordshire Moorlands district with at least one child under the age of 5 years old. Home-Start responds to each family’s needs individually through a combination of home visiting, telephone and group support.

The Chase the Sun bike ride, completed in June by Rob and Mike and sponsored by Faulkner Powell Mortgages, raised more than £2,000 to help support vulnerable families across the district. Despite battling rain and aching muscles, the pair completed the route on a tandem bicycle in one day, from one coast to the other.

Just weeks later, Paul Humphreys, a member of Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands staff, took on the Peak District Ultra Challenge, walking 100km in two days and raising over £1,000 more for the charity.

These efforts couldn’t have come at a more vital time. Home-Start Staffordshire Moorlands, which has been supporting families with young children for over 27 years, is now facing a major funding shortfall. Without an urgent injection of £20,000, the charity could be forced to close its doors.

Chair of Trustees Julie Bennett said: “We are incredibly grateful to Rob, Mike, Paul, and everyone who supported their fundraising efforts. These are more than just impressive physical challenges, they're lifelines. The money raised will help us continue supporting local families through some of life’s toughest moments. But we are not out of danger. We urgently need our local community to rally round us.”
