Sunday, 10th of August, saw Cheadle, Staffordshire, in a party mood. The sun shone as residents and their four-legged friends gathered for the annual Party in the Park.

The gates opened at 12 noon, and visitors were treated to all kinds of delights. The traditional fairground was positioned in its usual spot, with charity and commercial stalls lining the roadside edge. Large-scale and many sponsored (free) attractions lined the remaining perimeter, with visitors still able to enjoy the fixed features of the skatepark, zip wire, tennis courts, as well as small and large play spaces. The middle section was filled with live music, food and drink stalls, and a seating area with an arena space and the compere filling the remaining space.
Party in the Park is Cheadle at her best with community leaders and volunteers working tirelessly to make sure visitors had a happy day. Represented were Cheadle Lions, Cheadle CATS, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, South Moorlands Archery Club, Churches Together, Creative Cheadle, Cheadle Allotments, Claire's Corner Community Pantry and of Course Cheadle Town Council.
Memorial Unveiled
Mayors from Leek, Uttoxeter, and other areas attended to support the event and join in the festivities. A large number of residents, both young and old, also participated and enjoyed the day. This year, the event was move back by a week to accommodate JCB workers returning to the area after their annual shutdown.
Town Council Mayor Kate Mills told us that she'd had a superb day with overwhelming support for her chosen charity, Cheadle Animal Welfare, from local residents. She told COGNEWS that a special moment for her was seeing over twenty young adults whom she knew as children coming to honour their friend's memorial, many of whom had traveled from across the country. Their friend Tom had been the driving force behind the creation of the skatepark enjoyed by Cheadle youngsters now for 20 years and Cheadle's Skatepark was inspiration behind those built in Leek and Biddulph. It was a special moment as Tom's memorial was unveiled, something which had great significance not only to Mayor Kate but everyone who knew this popular young man. We are all indebted to his work and the many others who helped to create the park, which stands as a testament to the importance of having hopes and dreams for the town.

Visitors were able to ride a train (Cheadle Lions), try a climbing wall, test their skill at archery (South Moorlands Archery Club), and try their hand at table football. Gentler pursuits included getting to know local alpacas, a chocolate tombola, and have-a-go crafts.
An event like this takes a lot of organising and hard work on the day, with the town councillors and clerks being on site before 8 am and some still there at 7 in the evening. We are grateful for all their hard work in making this event a success.
Annual Family Dog Show
No family-friendly day at the park would be complete without something special for our four-legged friends. Doggos from across the district gathered with their owners to compete for a rosette and other prizes sponsored by Cross Street Pet Store. Local vet Bruce Barker of Rogers, Brock & Barker Veterinary Surgeons did a sterling job in leading the crowd towards the worthy winners.

Cheadle Town Council may not currently host many events directly, but when they do, they do it well, and Party in the Park 2025 was exceptional

Volunteers & Members Sought by Community Groups
Some of our community groups are currently looking for volunteers and members to help support their work. This includes Cheadle Lions and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. If you'd like to find out more about local volunteering opportunities, do contact us.
