Churchill Road Recreation Ground Development - Tenders In
It was reported to the meeting that the Churchill Recreation Ground tenders have been approved, and work could start as soon as April for the park upgrade. No details were given at the meeting to councillors on how this would be managed or communicated to residents.
Cheadle Cemetery - Ecology Plan Improvements Needed
Even though planning permission has been granted for the cemetery extension—see SMD/2023/0361 on the Staffordshire District Council website—there were conditions that needed to be met regarding wildlife, as highlighted in the planning department’s final report. A letter was sent to Cheadle Town Council; a summary of this letter was expressed to the council by the deputy clerk. No documentation was presented, and none is available on the District Council website, but it is alleged that plans to extend the cemetery have been stalled by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust on the grounds of biodiversity loss.

Councillor Ellis said, “We are putting more biodiversity into the land. How much more do they need?” Councillor Jarvis said farmers are experiencing this as well, and it just results in an area of weeds.
Cognews spoke to a local ecologist in Cheadle, Mr. Keeling, who said this to-and-fro of letters between developer and client is normal and that a conclusion can normally be reached quite quickly. Councillor Ellis said he hoped that local people will appreciate what the Wildlife Trust has asked for. You can hear the recording below:
Ease of Parking Congestion for Tean Road Recreation Ground Planned
Chair Councillor Plant said that he has spoken to District Council CEO Andrew Stokes, and he may deliver an extension to Tean Road Car Park, which becomes full when footballers use it. No mention was made as to whether this would also be used to ease congestion for the nearby cricket club, which struggles for space, and the council has received complaints from residents about hazardous parking practices.
District Council Legacy
The District Council is asking the Town Council if they can leave a legacy after the closure of the council in a few years' time. No comments were received from those present.
