How Heat Pump Technology Has Transformed My Breakfast Time

I'm a Cheadle resident in an older two-bedroom semi-detached house, and each morning, I was met with the noise of my old gas boiler clattering into operation. It releases unburnt hydrocarbons and plumes of condensate along my side path and had reached that age where it needed to be replaced.

Which way should I go? Have a new upgraded one or one of the new trend heat pump types. A similar one to what I have now would have cost me about £2000 to be installed. The heat pump style currently has a grant available called the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. I opted for a heat pump, which cost about 26 percent less than the combi.

The installation took three days. The staff were courteous, and when an issue was spotted, they fixed it quickly and without any hassle. The pump is fitted outside, which does save space in the kitchen, something that is often at a premium and can improve the aesthetics of this hard-working room.

Now, I can enjoy my breakfast each morning in peace and quiet, without the constant buzzing and popping of a boiler firing up. The system integrates well with my solar PV panels and storage battery, maintaining a consistent temperature in my home, making my home warm and cozy in winter and providing free hot water in summer through my electricity storage battery.

The Techy bit

The unit functions like a refrigerator in reverse, extracting heat from the air and channeling it into the home, so for every kilowatt of electricity used, I receive 3.4 kilowatts of heat from my new system. The heat pump consists of a compressor and a fan, so there are very few parts, making the chances of it going wrong very unlikely.

If your home has an electricity storage battery and/or solar panels, the cost of heating can be further reduced. I would never consider a home without one in the future, and it doesn’t emit carbon dioxide, contributing to saving our planet. I can now consider myself to be carbon neutral.
