Feeding the Cheadle Lions

The Cheadle and District Lions Club is a local charity dedicated to serving our community by either raising funds or providing services.

What makes them special is that they do their work within a social framework, such that one day they may be selling tickets for a plastic duck race at Tean; the next, they will be having a social meet in a pub.
One example is if you sit in the garden at Cheadle Hospital, you will be comforted by raised beds of flowers and benches painted and maintained by the club.
An event took place on Saturday, 7th February, at the New Broom, Checkley. They hired the event room for the evening to celebrate their 38th year (Charter). The room was beautifully decorated with the signature blue and gold Lions colours and pennants from all over the world, telling a pictorial story of the 1.4 million male and female Lions who form the world's largest service organisation.

The evening was a wonderful three-course dinner; local Lions were joined and supported by friends of Lions, regional leaders, members from other clubs, and the local mayor. Live music and a couple of fundraising activities added to the event, along with the attendance of Gizmo - the club's animatronic mascot who joined in the activities in his own special ways.
Monies raised by the group support local needs and some further afield. A couple of local Lions initiatives are the bra boxes situated in the Cancer Research & RSPCA shops and a spectacles box in Scrivens opticians.
