Lions Fun Day at Foxfield

Friendly Lions gathered from all parts of the Staffordshire Moorlands and Stoke-on-Trent, to create a special day at Foxfield Railway, Blythe Bridge for the children in our area. The day was focused solely on providing a fun time for Children who were disadvantaged at birth or have learning difficulties. The Lions Organisation raise funds across the country for charities in their local area, and they support local groups by providing services too. One example for Cheadle lions, is the replanting, and repairing of the benches at Cheadle Hospital. The Railway day was a great example of how smaller groups can work together to deliver a lovely day out.

Each regional group had their own stall with inventive fun for the children. I was pleased to see Cheadle Lions in full force at this event parking cars and entertaining the children on the railway train.

The Station's entrance at Foxfield was filled with fun activities, from a petting farm to funfair rides, including animals for children to meet. Next children took a ride on the steam train, and were greeted by their own band on the platform.

Some took part in the find the animal competition, others enjoyed the on board comedian, the atmosphere of an old time station, the whistle, the noises and of course the smell of the steam train as it pulled them along the 2.5mile track at 15mph.

At the halt they enjoyed the engine shunting around the carriages. The tank engine was originally from the Burton Brewery and was just able to pull the 1950's coaches up the incline.

Although the Lions fun day at Foxfield, set up for the children, it was enjoyed by all involved. It was an important way for Lions across the area to come together in caring directly for some of the many people the organisation supports.

If you want to connect to Cheadle Lions you'll find their details in our member directory.
