Talking at the ceremony, County Councillor Phil Hewitt said: “There’s a huge amount of fantastic work being done by voluntary groups right across the county, which we’re extremely grateful for.
“It’s really important that we recognise these amazing contributions, which is why I’ve introduced the Unsung Hero Awards. Through the awards, we can show our appreciation to those individuals and groups and thank them for what they do and for the difference they make in their local communities.
“It was a huge privilege for me to present the awards on behalf of the county and I’d like to say a huge well done to the latest groups involved.”
Future awards ceremonies are planned to recognise organisations from across Staffordshire in 2025.
Local Hero - Dee Beardmore, Creative Cheadle
Dee Beardmore, who received Creative Cheadle's award, informed COGNEWS that she mistakenly followed the wrong taxi on her way to the County Council Buildings. This led to her late arrival, with all the dignitaries, including the Lord Lieutenant and local County Councillor Mark Deaville, waiting outside to welcome our local hero. Dee was warmly applauded and proceeded to enjoy high tea with the group. Her award recognized her exceptional voluntary work within the community, but she emphasized that Creative Cheadle's success is not solely hers but also due to the many creative individuals in the town. "This award truly belongs to the many men and women who sit at home knitting," Dee stated.
Cheadle High street is frequently dressed by Creative Cheadle with knitted bollard covers and colourful drapes and cover for the Market Cross following the seasons and events within the town's calendar. This adds colour and interest which encourages and delights visitors young and old.
Creative Cheadle often adorns Cheadle High Street with knitted bollard covers as well as coverings for the Market Cross, all reflecting the seasons and events on the town's calendar. This infusion of colour and charm captivates and pleases both young and old visitors.
Congratulations to everyone involved - we eagerly anticipate your next endeavor.
