How to have your say
Cheadle Town Council, in conjunction with SMDC, is finally able to move forward with the much-awaited improvements to Churchill Road Recreation Ground, situated on Churchill Road, Cheadle.
In recent years, the park has declined as investment has sadly not been forthcoming. We are delighted to report that this is now possible, and residents' views are being sought on what's needed in the space.

Popular with dog walkers and adjacent to a public right of way, the space is linked to South Moorlands Leisure Centre and Cecilly Brook Nature Reserve by a footpath running alongside Cecilly Brook. This area of Cheadle is currently the main thrust of new home building in the town, and as most of the building is family homes, having a great quality outdoor space is vital for new and existing residents. It could also become a great place for visitors and potentially additional income streams for the town, such as much-needed event space, something that until its decline the park was known for.
There are a couple of problems with the space that must be tackled; one is public safety, with both anti-social behaviour and crime being carried out in this area, in part due to the rabbit warren nature of the layout in that area of town. We are pleased to report that since the Bellway Homes site has been fully opened, this type of activity appears to have reduced, probably because the area is more widely used and actions are more visible. The other consideration is the careful management of the brook, which meanders the length of one edge of the park, and the adjacent bridge, both sources of great beauty and peace.
What facilities would encourage you and your loved ones to use the space? What do you think our town needs to help live here well, for future generations, for visitors, or perhaps provide income to generate better facilities in the future?
