Christmas Comes to Cheadle!

In many communities across the UK, the Christmas Lights Switch On event is a celebration of both the Christmas period ahead and a wonderful way to light up those darker nights after long summer days. It's the coming together of families and friends to the town or village centre, not just to count down the moment until the lights are first seen, but to experience other activities too. Favourites include a visit to Santa Claus, mulled wine and mince pies, carol singers and other live music, and sellers offering carefully curated Christmas gifts and decorations.

This isn't a themed publicly funded experience costing 10's of thousands of pounds to attract visitors from afar, it's ordinary hard working people giving up their time to make sure their friends and neighbours have a good time.

Cheadle Staffordshire is a market town, with history spanning over a thousand years, and always puts on a good event thanks to the work of an organisation called Team Cheadle a diverse group of volunteers who meet monthly to work towards their flagship event. This years as in others did not disappoint.
The Town Christmas Tree was again provided by ArB Tree Care free of charge for the people of Cheadle, and the familiar lights and crib were in place outside Ludlow House on the High Street.
The crowd gathered for the countdown, and the switch-on was enjoyed by many local people and visitors. Most shops stayed open late, and the street party got into full swing with the Cheadle and District Choir, a jazz band, and even a live flame artist, which was new for 2025.

Plenty of roadside food stalls and charities were present. Cheadle Lions, Rotary Club, Allotment Society, and Girl Guide stalls, just to name a few. Many children enjoyed their visit to Santa, at Redeezine Gift and craft shop.
Team Cheadle, event organisers restricted the fairground to the Tape Street car park, which seems a better solution as the High Street becomes so full of residents and friends.

It was nice to see the Brownies litter picking to ensure that our town remains neat and tidy after the event.
Another Christmas period officially welcomed and enjoyed by many locals.
