Cheadle Historical Society - Medieval in May - King Richard III talk

The speaker for the May meeting is Mr. Harry Tomkinson. Harry specializes in the medieval period, and in particular that of Edward IV and Richard III. He has worked at the King Richard III Visitor Centre in Leicester, working alongside Philippa Langley, who was instrumental in the finding of Richard III.

He travels extensively doing lectures, talks, and tours, and is an active member of The Richard III Society and The Plantagenet Alliance.

We are extremely lucky that Harry has found time to visit our society, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in November. It is indeed a rare opportunity to see a presentation by him.

His recently published book “Alton Towers, From Iron Age Fort to Worldwide Fame" is now in a second print run. All will be welcomed.

July 16th.  A visit to Stoke Minster.

We are fortunate to have a guided tour at 12.00 Noon. How many times have we driven past, but never visited? Bring sandwiches if you wish,

August 09th. SUNDAY. 2.00 p.m. A history walk around Cheadle Town.

Meet at the short stay car park, Tape St. at 1.45 p.m.

This will take approx. 1-11/4 hours at a leisurely pace.

Please note, we will never be more than 10 minutes from the car park. A chance for us to introduce new residents, neighbours and friends to the heritage of our wonderful town.

Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are recommended.

August 20th.  The Nuns of Oulton (near Stone), Abbey.

An illustrated talk by Chris Westwood. Entering a convent, becoming a nun, and life in a convent was probably not as we imagine.
