Monday, 18th of May, saw Cheadle Town Council meet for their annual parish assembly and extraordinary full council meeting to elect this year's town mayor, deputy mayor, and committee leads.

Cllr Philip Routledge is this year's incoming mayor, with Cllr Jase Jervis becoming the Deputy. Councillors voted overwhelmingly against the tradition of electing the deputy mayor into the role of incoming mayor, ending the domination of the town council by district councillors of last year, Cllr Kate Mills (Mayor) and Cllr Ian Plant (Deputy).
Deputy Mayor Jase Jervis told COGNEWS "I shall support our mayor and ensure to the best of my ability that our town assets get their full funding and not taken away by any new authority under the local government reorganisation. I'd also like thank every councillor who supported me in last night's vote".
Deput Mayor Jervis is the first Reform Councillor to hold office in Staffordshire Moorlands.
Last year was a turbulent year for Cheadle Town Council, with 10 councillors resigning from office and the Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk swapping roles. COGNEWS readers may recall last month's "Cheadle in Doom" article, where the council was informed that they were being excluded from SMDC's policy regarding the transfer of assets prior to local government reorganisations next year despite appearing to fit the criteria required.
