Local Councillor Allan Thomas has been campaigning for many years to ensure that as Cheadle grows, the education facilities for our children grow with it. Great progress has been made with both land and money handed over by Persimmon Homes as part of their responsibilities toward mitigating the impact created by the additional homes being built in Cheadle North. Although significant effort and funding will be required for this important undertaking.

We asked Staffordshire County Council - the local authority currently responsible for delivering the new school for an update, and here's what they said:
This development isn’t scheduled to happen before 2030, so details on design and budget will not be available so far in advance.
Janet Higgins, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Any new primary school in Cheadle will be built in line with demand, as the area grows. We are working closely with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to make sure this matches the pace of housing growth in the area. At present, there are enough local school places to manage the early impact of development already underway.
“Based on current population trends and expected housebuilding, the new school is unlikely to open before September 2030. In the meantime, we’re continuing to do the groundwork to ensure it can be delivered at the right time.”
The response does raise further questions, one being the accuracy of those numbers and, given the process involved in developing any new school, will the monitoring system be able to keep pace with the demand for school places? Additionally, if they are not building a school, what will happen to both the land and the money paid over for its development in the meantime, particularly as neither council is likely to exist when the time comes to break ground? And finally, at what point will the land be used for something else if school places are not needed?
Cllr Thomas told COGNEWS "I was disappointed to read the comments from SCC on the dates for the new school off Froghall Road, Cheadle. It was always my belief that the school would be approved and in build for the latter part of 2027, to meet the school placing requirements for primary places."
"To read this has been pushed back to 2030 is a blow to the town and the young children of the town and surrounding area; however, it will not deter me from trying to get this school built."
