A Party in the Park to Remember

On Sunday 9th of August Cheadle residents turned out to enjoy the free event, organised by the the Town Council every year - Party in the park at Tean Road Recreation Ground This year's events included arial performers, the ever popular dog show, community stalls and live music.

Mayor Philip Routledge said it was a fantastic day - everyone seemed to enjoy it. There was a great atmosphere, and business and community group stalls really worked well together, highlighting the amazing things which happen in Cheadle. A visitor from Mow Cop told me that they had had a lovely day and what a lovely community and special place Cheadle is!

The Waggiest Winner

Pictured are Jane and PJ with Trio their dog who won the first prize for waggiest tail in the ever popular dog show. "We’re born n bred Cheadle and support as much as possible in Cheadle." said the happy winners.

Margaret's Jam

Wonderful home made jams by Margaret Plant. Margaret’s been making jams since living at home with her mum. They had a farm at Draycott, we had a big garden filled with fruits in summer. “Mum made a lot of jam and it kept us going over the winter. She taught me how to make it and I still do. My favourite is blackberry.

Alpacas in the Park

Cheadle & District Allotments

The community-minded group hosted a bottle stall—always popular with visitors. This strong community of growers makes a colorful addition to many local events, spending time away from their much-loved allotments and into the community..

Meet Glow - Mayoral Charity of the Year

Each year the incoming Mayor of Cheadle selects one or two charities for fundraising focus. At this year's Party in the Park, Glow, a Staffordshire-based domestic violence charity, hosted their own stall. They offer advice on leaving a relationship or starting your recovery journey. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust

The trust brought along their colourful stand offering a wealth of information to visitors about local wildlife. A regular contributor to COGNEWS, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust is a member organisation, and visitors had the opportunity to join the charity and make a contribution to their vital work across the region.

Aerial high flyers delighted visitors of all ages.

RBB Vets - Celebrating Local Dogs

Local Veterinary Surgeon Bruce Barker (far right) paused for a picture with his team from Rogers, Brock, and Barker Vets before carrying out his regular role at Party in the Park - judging the Dog Show. Bruce told our reporter that he's happy to do the role because they want to celebrate family dogs. "There are some beautiful dogs in Cheadle, very precious dogs belonging to people of all ages, retired people, people with young families, people on their own, and every day those folks get up out of bed and they are thrilled to see their dogs and they quite like to celebrate their dogs with other people," said Bruce. "So to be in the ring and show everybody how beautiful their dog is, is just great fun!"

"We also like to show that dogs come in different sizes and shapes and tell the story of some of them as well, giving that moment of glory to a family who can tell everybody that they were the winner and their dog is the best puppy in Cheadle, etc."

"When you talk to people about the role their pets play in their lives, they are a form of therapy for many, many people. We know people who live on their own and are maybe not so well; they have to go to the shops to get food for the dog, and they remember to get food for themselves, which wasn't their number one priority. If you're feeling a bit down or lonely and you take the dog out, you can bet your bottom dollar that somebody will say hello to you - you can't walk down the street without someone wanting to say why is your dog so tall, so short, so hairy, bald, etc. So that gives you an introduction to chat, so people who are staying at home who've only got the telly for company, the dog gives them company as well, and we like to celebrate that."
