Sorry: This post is still being constructed, but we couldn't wait to share the story so far. Who knew there were so many things you can do with your pooch!
About this post: This post will particularly interest dog owners and lovers who want to spend more time focused on dogs. It was created because I was struggling for an 18th Birthday plan for someone very special who loves dogs. The principals can be applied to other interests and I will share my research ideas in another blog if you would like it. (Please vote below)
We love our pets and even if we can't own a dog many of us love that little bit of bliss a doggy encounter brings. Here are 18+ ways to engage with a woofy friend.
The great outdoors
1 Visit a dog friendly pub with your pup
Dogs, like us are largely sociable creatures and what better way for you both to mix than a visit to your local pub. Do check first if dogs are welcome. If you are thinking of visiting a Greene King establishment you can find out which are dog friendly by clicking the find your local link on their website and putting in your postcode. If it's dog friendly you'll see that in the bio. Although don't be tempted to give your dog alcohol. He's much better sticking to water!

2 Visit Woofferton in Shropshire
We couldn't resist including such an obvious doggy connection and spoke with the Salwey Arms to confirm their doggy credentials. Check out the links below to help plan a little visit.
3 Visit Hounds Tor & Black Dog in Devon
4 Visit your local animal shelter
A quick google search will show you your nearest shelters, some accept donations of food, blankets etc and some need extra dog walkers. Give them a call and arrange this worthwhile activity.
5 Visit Porthmadog in Wales
6 Go swimming with your dog
7 Create & do a doggy walking tour
8 Visit a dog Lovers festival
9 Go on a train with your dog
This is one which needs careful planning, do ask your train service provider what the protocol is and be prepared to pay for his or her travel. We were delighted to discover that the Churnet Valley Railway in the heart of the Peak District is dog friendly. Here's what they told us about the doggy service: "We welcome dogs on our blue and green train journey. There is a £10.00 charge for all dogs . The green time table is a great experience for the dogs and owners alike, the journey can be taken to the end of the line and if the earlier train (10:30) is boarded it is possible to get off this one - go for a walk (or to the pub!) and then catch the 13:30 when it comes past on the way back to Froghall. We are definitely doing this!

10 Go on a bus with your dog
11 Get a puppaccino
12 Doggy Thrifting
Visit a nearby town and checkout the charity shops for doggy goodies. This might be a book, a film or even an item of clothing. Some upcycling might be required, remember there are a number of pet charities who raise their funds through their shops so that's a good place to start and you'll be supporting a pet charity too.
13 Take your dog cycling
If you, like us, like cycling you can take your four legged friend along for the ride. There are a number of cycle hire companies across the country, usually situated near somewhere beautiful to ride, who also hire doggy trailers. We spoke with John co-owner of The Bike Barn at Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Situated by the beautiful Tissington trail, John told us they have a number of purpose built tail wagons. The wagons are exclusively for pet and are suitable for up to Labrador size dogs. "Not all dogs take to this mode of travel straight away", said John. "My advice is to stick with it or give them a bit of a walk first so they will be thankful of the rest."
You can contact The Bike barn online we recommend booking first especially if you are travelling in. They also have a pup truck wicker basket for smaller dogs too.
