What to do with your left over carpet

If you’ve having a new carpet fitted, and you have a piece left over or discover a piece of the old carpet which is as new because it’s been under some furniture, it’s worth considering turning it into a rug.
You can use it as a runner, or cut it into pieces to use as gardening mats, boot liners et cetera. You could also turn it into a real rug.

How to make a rug
Firstly make sure the size fits where you want it to go and that the corners are square and the length straight. If you're not comfortable with this make sure to ask your fitter to cut it before they leave. It's easy for them to do and they may not even charge you for it, if they do it shouldn't be much.
You’ll need some way to bind the edges to stop it from fraying. Traditionally rugs are taped and whipped which is a skilled process but we've found something which anyone can use. It's part really strong tape and part braided edge. So you get a fancy finish for minimal effort. You can also use this process to cut down a rug which is too big or damaged, giving it a new lease of life.
Stairrods UK have a product called Easybind which works really well. There are lots of colours to choose from so you can match or contrast to the colour of your soon to be rug.

Stairrods don't sell directly to the public so you might struggle to find it in the shops. We did some research and are able to purchase this range for resale, so if you can't find what you need through your normal channels email us your size and colour/range option and we'll come back with a price and availability.
You'll have a new rug for the price of some tape and an hour or so of your time.
