Keeping our community safe is something we can all take part in. Here are some practical crime prevention tips recommended by UK police and Neighbourhood Watch:
At Home
Always lock doors and windows, even when you’re at home.
Use timer switches to make your house look occupied when you’re away.
Keep valuables out of sight from windows.
Consider installing a doorbell camera or alarm system.
Vehicle Safety
Lock your car and remove valuables, even small items like sat-navs or bags.
Park in well-lit areas or car parks with CCTV when possible.
Use a steering wheel lock for extra protection.
Personal Safety
Stay alert when walking alone, especially at night.
Keep phones and headphones tucked away when travelling in busy areas.
Stick to well-lit streets and let someone know your route if walking home late.
Look Out for Each Other
Report suspicious activity to the police on 101 (non-emergency) or 999 in an emergency.
Share information through local Neighbourhood Watch groups.
Check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
Together, small steps make a big difference. Let’s continue to look out for one another and keep our area safe.
Stay safe,
Ash
