Here are some important safety tips to discuss with your teen:
1.Protect Personal Information: Never share personal details like your full name, address, phone number, or school online. Be cautious when posting photos or videos' once shared, they can be difficult to remove.
2.Beware of Online Strangers: Don't trust everyone you meet online. Be aware that people may not always be who they say they are. Never agree to meet someone in person without involving a parent or trusted adult.
3.Use Strong Passwords: Create unique, strong passwords for social media and online accounts. Don't share passwords with anyone except trusted family members, and always log out when using public computers.
4.Think Before You Post: Remember that anything you post online whether a comment, photo, or video can be seen by others and may stay online indefinitely. Be mindful of what you share and how it may impact your future.
5.Cyberbullying Awareness: Stand up against cyberbullying. If you or someone you know is being harassed online, report it immediately. Block or mute individuals who are causing harm, and reach out for support if needed.
6.Check Privacy Settings: Review the privacy settings on all social media accounts. Ensure that only trusted friends and family can see your posts and personal information.
7.Know What to Do If Something Feels Wrong: If you come across content, messages, or interactions that make you uncomfortable, don't hesitate to tell a trusted adult. Your safety and well-being are top priorities.
