Emma Chatwin is a local lady, married, a mum of four, 34 years of age, and standing for the Green Party. COGNEWS caught up with Emma at Cheadle's Summerhouse Coffee Shop. Here's how it went.

Emma Chatwin, Green Party Candidate

She told us that she wishes to be proactive and loyal to the people of the town and to do her best to help the community, but she does recognise the limitations town councillors have.

She works as a quantitative analyst and is very good with numbers. Her family loves Cheadle, and she enjoys the market in Greyhound Walk. She is looking forward to the market square opening sometime. Her children attend a local nursery, and her son enjoys swimming at our leisure centre. Her husband is a teacher.

Emma has concerns about young people being safe on our streets. She's a non-driver, so she understands firsthand the problems of our local bus services in the town. She would like to see a bus service provided for the new Aldi store and is concerned about the high level of traffic in the town and would like to see it reduced. Road safety is also a concern in the West Ward. She's passionate about putting the community first before the party as a Green Party candidate.

Her view on housing is that the town does not need any more housing development, as there is not the infrastructure for additional houses, and why would you want to build on such lovely countryside anyway?

"My focus is on my town more than the party I represent." - Emma Chatwin

She believes strongly in the town having a community centre, a youth club, as well as good tourist links. Business is important, and she would listen to the needs of local business people.

Emma has kindly shared with COGNEWS the list of where West Ward Residents can vote. This is currently causing residents an issue largely because Cheadle Town Council voted against providing polling cards, prefering to save the cost. You can hear that vote here:

You can find out where you should vote and if you are elible here: https://www.cheadlecog.com/post/cheadle-west-ward-voting-information

*The West Ward is roughly from Brookhouse Road to the High Street. While the new member will be elected to represent the West Ward, they will vote on all matters brought before the Council and sit on at least one committee that considers the needs of the area as a whole.

Sadly, we've not yet received a reply to our ongoing requests to interview the Reform candidate, Lee Bentley, and hope to be able to bring you his views soon.
