According to the first study on the impact of infections diseases in England the benefit of sharing information to helps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, saving the NHS £6.20 for every £ spent based on conservative assumptions.
This is the first time this report has been compiled, it's significant because during the COVID 19 pandemic and the enforced isolation, this meant that other diseases were also controlled. This report give us insight in the effects of that isolation and how post pandemic infections are impacting society.

UKHSA catalogued ICD-10 codes related to infections and infectious diseases enabling an assessment of their burden on NHS hospitals (admitted care) in England using routine health data. This found that over 20% of secondary care bed days in 2023-24 were attributable to infectious disease or infections, at a cost to the NHS of £5.9 billion.
The report looked at respiratory infections, healthcare-associated infections, Blood-borne viruses,STI's, gastro-intestinal infections, vaccine preventable infections and emerging infections. You can download the full report here:
