Staffordshire Police are making residents aware of a recent increase in key safe boxes being forcibly broken into. Offenders are targeting poorly secured key safes and using the obtained keys to commit burglaries at later times.

What you can do to protect your property:

  • Review your existing key safe – older or low-quality models are particularly vulnerable.

  • If a key safe is required, use a high-quality, police-approved model.

  • Ensure key safes are secured using anchor fixings, not standard screws and wall plugs, which can be easily defeated.

  • Install key safes in less visible locations and avoid obvious placement near doors.

  • Regularly change access codes and limit who has access.

If you believe your key safe has been tampered with, remove it immediately, secure your property, and report any suspicious activity to the police.
