Cheadle & District Animal Welfare Society is a small charity with a BIG heart. It is run entirely by volunteers and aims to help abandoned and unwanted cats as well as helping to rehome dogs who are no longer able to stay in their own homes. Margaret Russell from the charity shares their latest news and more.
Meet Lottie and Panda Who are looking for a new home

Lovely Lottie
Lottie is a lovely white and black young cat who, when she was a kitten had a home, but
once she grew into an adult cat they didn’t want her any more. She is an affectionate cat and is about 2 years old. She has been in our care for 12 months and no one has so far shown any interest in her so far, she’s happy in the cattery, but it’s not like having a proper home.
Purrfect Panda
Panda is also a lovely, affectionate, white and black cat. She was found as a stray but was
never claimed. She is 7 years old, but is not keen on other cats so her new home needs
to one where she is the only pet in the household. Panda has been in our care since
October 2025 so it’s about time she found her forever home.

About Our Work
Dogs and cats are the most kept pets in the UK, with approximately 15.5 million dogs (41% of all households own a dog) and 13 million pet cats (31% of households have a cat). Sadly not all dogs and cats have happy homes; some can be abandoned or lost, some need rehoming when owners can no longer care for them, and this is where the work of animal charities is vital. Cheadle & District Animal Welfare offers a broad range of services to animals and those looking to give a home to a new pet.
All the animals coming into care are vet checked, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given worm and flea treatments before being put up for adoption. Any animals who come into care with an injury or medical condition are given veterinary care at Lime Trees Vets and ongoing veterinary care is provided for those who have long term medical conditions.
We have do not have our own premises but are very lucky to have 3 people who have built catteries at their own homes to accommodate the cats who come into care, while others are cared for in foster homes. We pay for the cats to have bed, breakfast and evening meals while they wait for their forever homes, which can sometimes take many weeks and even months, especially if the cats are black or black and white.

Injured cats can be taken to Lime Trees Cat Clinic, Tean Road, Cheadle 01538 752117, between 8.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday At all other times ring 01335 390369. We will honour the bill until the owner is found.
