Local residents have watched with interest over the past few months as a disused shop at the north end of the High Street was sympathetically brought back to life. A Wedding Gown destination store is the perfect addition to this section of the High Street, and it's clear from just viewing the window how much love has been poured into bringing this space to life.

COGNEWS was on hand to find out more about this lovely addition to our town.

New Store Owner Bernice Fisher with Lord Mayor Phil Routledge & Lady Mayoress Zenobia Routledge

On Friday 12th of June 2026, The Ivory Room Cheadle officially opened its doors following a soft launch. Owner Bernice and her mum Denise greeted our Mayor and Lady Mayoress, who welcomed the mother and daughter team to the town with a bouquet of flowers and lots of wedding dress chatter.

Opening a wedding dress shop has always been a dream of the Tean-based entrepreneur. You might be familiar with "Hygge Coffee Shop" on the High Street in Upper Tean, which Bernice founded with her husband. She drove past her new venture premises a few times, and the property really struck a chord with her, so she approached the owners who were working on the building, asking them if they could open up the space further. Bernice and Denise then set about creating the beautiful space you see today.

Inside, the store is romantically laid out with gowns starting from £895 and the top end around £2500.

Bernice told us that she has two designer ranges on board: Milan-based Demetrios, which is exclusively stocked in Staffordshire at The Ivory Room Cheadle, and Madi Lane, an Australian-based designer very popular on social media. There is a third designer, Maggie Sottero, due in very soon.

Beautiful accessories are available too, and a fabulous area where the bridal party can enjoy the experience in a luxurious setting while the bride can try out a podium and steps to see how the dress feels as well as looks.

Local businesses and residents have been very supportive and welcoming, with many people taking an interest in their window - inspiring people to want to take the plunge or do it again, caught up in the romance created by the beautiful gowns on display. And who can blame them? Cheadle is a stunning place to get married with four churches, two with bell towers, and great access to some of the country's finest views, making the perfect photo op.
