Are Staffordshire Moorlands communities prepared for climate hazards?

With wildfires currently a major risk not just to wildlife and our beautiful region but to residents, businesses, and visitor numbers alike, and the problems we experienced with flooding a few short months ago, we ask, "Are Moorlands communities prepared for climate hazards?"

The National Association of Local Councillors' Climate Emergency Network recently met (9th of May) to focus on equipping community members and local groups with the skills and knowledge to respond to a range of emergencies and hazards. This included an overview of the work of Communities Prepared, an England-wide programme funded by the National Lottery under a National Resilience programme. This organisation is working with community leaders, councils, and individuals to be prepared. You can find out more on the link above.
We think much more needs to be done, and our editor Lori has asked our Town Council to get involved. She tells us that the response so far is good. We'll let you know their decision following the next full council meeting, where we hope this issue will be on the agenda.
One activity you can get involved in now is the Wildfires survey organised by SMDC. The seriousness of this issue means we probably need to take action which will affect us all, so please do have your say.
Another is joining Communities Prepared, perhaps becoming a spokesperson or volunteer for your group, neighbours, or company.
We've left comments open on this post so that you can share your thoughts on what can be done. We'll feed them forward as appropriate.
