Remembrance Sunday 8th November 2026
Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. We take a closer look at why Remembrance Sunday is so much more than remembering people we don't know from conflicts long past.

According to the Royal British Legion we remember the Armed Forces and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services, and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism.
The Royal British Legion is the UK's largest Armed Forces charity, dedicated to supporting the needs of serving personnel, veterans, and their families. Donations enable them to provide financial advice, legal guidance, recovery services, and six care homes, including five specialising in dementia care.
Donations help transform lives across the Armed Forces community. In 2025:
19,857 families in crisis turned to the Royal British Legion for support
£9.8 million helped families keep a roof over their heads
1,548 new families living with dementia were supported by the Royal British Legion Admiral Nurses service.
The thing we most see about the Royal British Legion is the Poppy Appeal, but this remarkable organisation has so much more than a simple paper poppy. Take a look at their website. https://www.poppyshop.org.uk/?seg=6PJPPC and you'll find the most beautiful pins, scarves, and brooches to show your support, and so much more. You can make a regular donation, buy Christmas cards, gifts, and even themed decorations. There's a huge range of memorabilia and books, and clothing at very affordable prices, enabling us to give with a double purpose or wear with pride.
For well over a century, we have been blessed with the most remarkable men and women who serve their country in many different ways, and the poppy appeal is an opportunity for us ordinary folk to support and honour each and every one of them, not just historically but for the future too.
Whilst Remembrance Sunday is a key date in the UK's calendar, this is a charity you can support all year round, and if you are struggling for a gift, their amazing selection will not only please your recipient but do something worthwhile too.
